Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupendra Yadav has announced the notification of Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh as India’s 56th Tiger Reserve.
It covers a vast area of 2,829 sq km, making it the third largest tiger reserve in India।Koriya district,its geographical boundary is from Anandpur in the north to Mendra in the south, Jogia in the east, Sukhtarato Garnai-Chandha in the west and the vast forest area is spread over an area of 1440.70 square kilometers.
It has many hill stations, Baland Garhi Bhada Hills, Khekhra Koda Majhigarh Bhairavgarh, Gadh Pahadi Revla etc.The origin and flow system of rivers and waterfalls like Gopad, Hasdo, Banas, Pairi, Bijadhur, Bania etc.are included in the territory of this national park.There are immense stores of plants here in the form of medicinal plants like Tejraj, Bhojraj,Bhriguraj, Patharneem, Sherchara, Aawala, Harra and Bahera.Animal lovers can see animals like national animal tiger, leopard, elephant, monkey, chinkara, kothari, wolf, otter, chital etc.This is a safe place for birds. Birds like forest cock, peacock, hornbill,eagle, kite, hoopoe, kingfisher, myna, heron etc. are found here.Trees like Sal, Haldu, Tendu, Char, Sidha, Amla, Kusum, Sajja, Jamun, Banyan etc. are found in abundance in the forest.
The reserve is strategically linked to other significant reserves, including Sanjay Dubri Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh to the north, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to the west, and Palamau Tiger Reserve in Jharkhand to the east. This interconnected network forms a nearly 4,500 square kilometer landscape complex that promotes effective conservation efforts.
